Alternate captain Marc Staal commented on the hard-working nature of the Predators club. “Nashville, they play hard. They finish their checks. They are quick. They are really good on the forecheck. Couple fights early brought up the tension level. I thought it was a hard fought game,” he said.
The game winning shootout goal came off the stick of former Pittsburgh Penguin Erik Christensen, who likes the coaching of the Predators. “We don’t see this team a whole lot. We know that Trotz has been here for a long time. They are really well coached. We know all about them. We expected it to be tough,” he said.
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist commented on the Predators attack. “They came out really hard and had us going.”
At the end of the day, however, the Rangers were most impressed with the play of goaltender Pekka Rinne.
“We had a lot of chances to score there and we didn’t score,” Staal said.
Adding Christensen, “Nashville has a real good goalie, that Pekka Rinne played really solid. We couldn’t get much by him. Like Lundqvist, Nashville has a great goalie that kept them in it.”
The Predators next take to the ice against the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena.
