Manitoba, which had totaled just four goals during a three-game losing skid heading into the weekend, matched that offensive output on Friday and edged visiting Texas by a 4-3 count before 9,129 fans at the MTS Centre.
Two-time AHL All-Star Sergei Shirokov scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Moose at 13:05 of the third period, his team-leading 20th goal of the season. It marks the second time in as many AHL seasons that the 25-year-old Shirokov has reached 20 goals.
The Vancouver Canucks’ young prospect also has a team-leading 31 assists, giving the talented winger 51 points for the season. Shirokov and the rest of the Moose look to battle it out for the top spot in the tight AHL North Division as the season winds down and the playoff push heats up.
