On the other hand, the birth of his son, Artem, on Sunday might have been just what Devils left wing Ilya Kovalchuk needed to stop worrying about being away from his family.
With mother and son now home from the hospital and resting, Kovalchuk had his most productive night as a Devil, scoring a goal and assisting on three others in a 6-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.
“It’s always good when you win because [in the] morning, everybody is going to be smiling and feeling good,” Kovalchuk said. “And we can’t stop for a second. We have to work even harder to be better.”
