Kings down Canucks, take series lead

Michal Handzus scored two power-play goals and added an assist to help Los Angeles defeat the Canucks, 5-3, in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Staples Center.

The clubs split two overtime games in Vancouver, with Los Angeles dropping the opener, 3-2, before overcoming a two-goal first-period deficit to take Game 2 by the same score on Anze Kopitar’s winner.

Drew Doughty registered a goal and three assists for the sixth-seeded Kings, who hosted their first playoff game since April 27, 2002.

Ryan Smyth and Brad Richardson also tallied for Los Angeles, while Jonathan Quick made 25 saves on 28 shots.

Mikael Samuelsson, Daniel Sedin and Mason Raymond each had a goal for the Northwest Division champion Canucks, who were dealt an embarrassing 8-3 loss in their last visit to Los Angeles on April 1.
