Zherdev’s Play Forces OT, Flyers Capitalize to Force Game 7

Nikolay Zherdev’s assist on Scotty Hartnell’s third period tying goal led the Philadelphia Flyers to defeat the Buffalo Sabres in a thrilling overtime victory, and force a Game 7 matchup on Tuesday. Trailing 4-3 with 9 minutes remaining in the high stake game, Zherdev took control after flying up the wing and released a hard shot that Ryan Miller barely handled. Mike Richards grabbed the loose puck and quickly found Hartnell breaking to the net for the finish, as the Flyers overcame trailing 3-1 to tying the game at 4 a piece. During the overtime, in which the Flyers’ season could have very well abruptly ended with a Buffalo goal, Ville Leino sent a wave of relief over the Philadelphia bench after banging home a rebound about 5 minutes into the extra period, extending the Flyers’ season to at least one more game. Zherdev and the Flyers hope to thrive on their momentum as both teams look to prolong their Stanley Cup playoff push with a Game 7 victory on Tuesday.
